Real Black History in Pictures

From the time enslaved Negroes were kidnapped and trafficked to this nation, they were given a history that is not truly their own. Black folks have overcome obstacle after obstacle to fight for an accurate representation in America's history books in the face of adversity. Civil rights played a major role for the Black man in America, but Black history is much more than the civil rights era and it is critical for people of color to have a truthful—and complete—understanding of their past. Black History has been reduced to a handful of memorable moments and events. Those events only seem to include the stories of The Underground Railroad, Rosa Parks and Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. But these are only a few of the significant and important events to know and remember. To get the truth about the Negro, we need Real Black History in pictures.

With Black History Month quickly approaching, there is no better time to learn about the true history of the people now called, African Americans. Who are they really? Images from times past can be used to illustrate the history and accomplishments of the people forcefully brought to America's shores. And through pictures, their story can be told accurately and without prejudice. This would be a dream come true.
